The gap between theory and practice as well as the related risks and uncertainties in developing and deploying knowledge management solutions, seems to be an essential cause of the missing knowledge transparency in an enterprise.

The fact that until now the involved 'human factors' have been inadequately appreciated and poorly promoted in the majority of real-world implementations of knowledge management clearly  demonstrates the need for a new orientation in this topic.

Knowledge Management is a means for organising the handling of knowledge. Successful Knowledge Management requires a perspective on knowledge which places the human being in its central focus. Organisational and technological measures instead must be employed as enabling factors.
